Abstract The oxirane derivative 2a of β-damascone which appears as the main product in the photo-oxygenation of β-damascol (1a), besides the α-hydroxy-hydroperoxides B and C, can easily be transformed into β-damascenone (8)[1] by a sequence of acid catalyzed reactions.
