Abstract A highly fluorescent 1-pyrenylmethyloxycarbonyl amino acid (Pmoc-amino acid) is obtained in moderate yield by the reaction of (1-pyrenylmethyl)-4-nitrophenylcarbonate with an amino acid in the presence of sodium carbonate.
