Abstract: Di-tert-butylchlorosilane, but not di-tert-butyldichlorosilane, reacts slowly with alkyllithium compounds to form di-t~ rt-butylalkylsilanes. With methyllithium, substitution is the only observed process. With tert-butyllithium, reduction competes with and is favored over substitution by 2: l.
