Abstract

Coumestrol (1) is a phytoestrogen which is found in plants. 1 Although it is one of the most potent phytoestrogens, its estrogenic activity is approximately 77 times less potent than estradiol, the primary human estrogen and the standard by which activity is measured. 2 Coumestrol is present in alfalfa, cabbage, and, to a lesser extent, soybeans.
