The reaction of singlet oxygen with tetrakis (ethylthio) ethylene has been shown to afford diethylthiooxalate and diethyl disulfide. The expected diethylthiocarbonate was also obtained as a minor product. A similar reaction with bis (ethylthio) ethylene gave ethylthioglyoxalate together with diethyl disulfide.
