Interaction of pentafluoropropionic acid and acetylene gave vinyl pentafluoropropionate, hydrogenation of which yielded ethyl pentafluoropropionate. Reduction of the acid with lithium aluminium hydride gave pentafluoropropanol and pentafluoropropaldehyde hydrate.
