We have investigated the incorporation of C6 derivatives of uracil into polypyrimidine peptide nucleic acid oligomers. Starting with uracil-6-carboxylic acid (orotic acid), a peptide nucleic acid monomer compatible with Fmoc-based synthesis was prepared.
