The reaction of vinyl sulfides with carbomethoxycarbene leads to the formation of methyl vinylthioacetate as major product and some cyclopropane adduct as minor product. The reaction of vinyl sulfides with biscarbomethoxycarbene leads to the corresponding stable sulfonium ylide which decomposed thermally to vinylthiomalonate.
