Abstract

Nortricyclene (11), a compound containing a three-membered ring, was found to be more stable than the olefinic isomer norbornene (I). Equilibration of both pure materials at the temperature of reflux by means of a silica-alumina catalyst gave mixtures with identical composition, 23% I and 77% 11.
