Abstract

Transformation of alcohols into nitriles is often an important process in organic synthesis since it allows direct homologation of the carbon chain of a variety of substrates. The classical methods to achieve the conversion usually involve a two-step sequence: transformation of the alcohol into the corresponding sulfonate ester or halide followed by nucleophilic substitution by cyanide!
