Abstract: A quantitative study is reported for the reactions in water of the hydroxyphosphorane R, OH (Granoth and Martin, J. Am. Chem. SOC. 1978, 100, 5229; 1979, 101, 4618). This species equilibrates with the isomeric phosphinate Ri, OH (K,=[RvOH]/[RivOH]). Addition of base results in the phosphoranoxide R, O-, the conjugate base of R, OH (K2=[R, O-][H+]/[R, OH]). This interconversion occurs with an apparent ...
