Abstract

The use of alkoxide as the reagent in the oxidationreduction reactions of hydrazinofluoro aromatic compounds provides homogeneous reaction conditions which greatly accelerate the rate of reaction in comparison with those reactions previously run as slurries in 3 N sodium hydroxide. Thus, 4, 4'-dihydrazinooctafluorobiphenyl (I) undergoes rapid oxidation- reduction on reaction with 2 moles of sodium ethoxide in ethanol (see Scheme I).
