This reaction, proceeding with the opening of the furan ring and the production of a formylchromone already has been found to occur with vi~ nagin,~ a khello13b and 5-methoxyfuro-4', 5', 6, 7-flavone. 3c The pyridylchromones have been found to respond to the usual test for flavones4: they give an orange or red color when reduced with magnesium and hydrochloric acid in alcoholic solution.
