The relative basicities of sixty-one selected ketones, esters, ethers and alcohols have been quantitatively determined bymeas-uring their ability to decrease the rate of the acid- catalyzed self-etherification of benzhydrol or the dehydration of t-butyl alcohol in benzene solution.
