Abstract The lithiation of 4, 4′-dibromooctafluorobiphenyl with n-butyllithium to yield 4, 4′- dilithiooctafluorobiphenyl and 4-lithio-4′-bromooctafluorobiphenyl as a by-product under various conditions is described.
