Abstract

Carbanions (R3C-I derived from triphenylmethane and benzhydryl cyanide displace chloride ion from phenylchloroacetylene in KOH-glycol dimethyl ether (glyme) to give PhC= CCR3. Similarly, benzhydryl cyanide anion in glyme reacts with mercuric bis (ch1oroacetylide) to give the substitution product Hg (C= CCPh2CN) 2.
