Abstract

Previous communications2 from this Laboratory have reported the condensation of eight of the seventeen possible tertiary octyl alcohols with benzene in the presence of aluminum chloride. The purpose of this investigation was to condense the remaining tertiary octyl alcohols with benzene and to determine the boiling points, refractive indices and surface tensions of the resulting octylbenzenes.
