Abstract

The reaction of ethyl hypochlorite with phenylacetylene in carbon tetrachloride solution was shown by Goldschmidt, Endres and Dirsch'to yield only w, w-dichloroacetophenone which apparently resulted from the addition of hypochlorous acid to the triple bond of the unsaturated compound.
