Primary, secondary and tertiary enaminones react with bis (pyridine) iodonium (I) tetrafluoroborate in methylene chloride at room temperature to give α-iodo enaminones in almost quantitative yields. The reported reaction is the first known example of direct iodination of tertiary enaminones.
