Abstract: The synthesis of several rose bengal derivatives soluble in nonpolar solvents is described. The bis (triethy1ammonium salt) of rose bengal, 2, and the triethylammonium salt of the benzyl and ethyl esters of rose bengal, 10 and 11, are soluble in methylene chloride and chloroform (Scheme I).
