A new method for the preparation of phosphinic acid anhydrides, R1RJ'(O) OP (O) R2R1, in good yields is described. It involves the action of paraformaldehyde on phosphinic chlorides. Several new symmetrical (R,= R?) and unsymmetrical (R1# Rc) phosphinic acid anhydrides were prepared and their physical constants and characteristic infrared frequencies are reported.
