Abstract

Megaphone'(&) is a cytotoxic neolignan which has now been synthesized by both the B&hi* and Zoretic3 groups. Our efforts in this area4 were directed very much along the lines of the latter synthesis. Specifically, intermediates z and 2 were prepared in both the East Carolina'and our laboratories, although by different reaction sequences.
