N5S,, obtained from the “acid-insoluble fraction” from the acid hydrolysis of micrococcin P by treatment with methanol and sulphuric acid, afforded inethyl 2- carbamoylthiazole-4-carboxylate (VII) on oxidation with chromic acid in acetic acid, thus providing proof of its thiazole nature.
