Abstract

o-, m-and p-methoxyphenyl and m-and p-nitrophenyldimethylcarbinyl chlorides were solvolyzed in aqueous acetone and the rate data extrapolated to give the rate constants in 90 vol.'% acetone at 25'. The m-methoxy derivative reacts at a rate 0.6 that of the parent compound but the para derivative at a rate of 3360 that of the unsubstituted derivative.
