Abstract

Discussion In the compounds studied, there appears to be a very definite relationship between reactivity of the hydroxyl group and the state of saturation of the alpha carbon atom. Only those compounds in which the alpha carbon is a member of the benzene ring or is double bonded show appreciable reactivity.
