Abstract

Erotnochloroiodomethane may be prepared conreniently by the action of alkali and sodium iodide on dibromochloromethane in methanol. The reaction involves the reversible formation of a trihalomethyl carbanion followed by a slower decomposition of the carbanion to dihalomethylenes. Each of the two intermediates, bromochloromethylene and chloroiodomethylene, is formed to a considerable extent. The reaction (as measured by ...
