Abstract

The reaction between equimolar amounts of (I) and 4-chlorophenol in ethanol in the presence of EtONa gave a mixture of mono-(IId) and bis-(4-chlorophenoxy) pyrimidine (IIId) in a ratio of i: i. Similar results were obtained when the reaction was carried out in the weakly polar, aprotic solvent toluene, in the presence of potassium carbonate.
