This review focuses on cobalt-catalyzed, chelation-assisted C H functionalization reactions in which an N,N′-bidentate directing group is used. Cobalt complexes are now recognized as potential alternatives for noble metals, such as Pd, Rh, Ir, Pt and Ru in C
H bond activation. Bidentate directing groups have been shown to be powerful auxiliaries for regio-selective C
H bond activation in C
H functionalizations catalyzed by cobalt complexes. This review is organized on the basis of reaction patterns.
