Three related diterpenoid quinones, royleanone, 9-acetoxyroyleanone, and 9- dehydroroyleanone, have been isolated from the roots of Inula royleana DC These have been assigned structures on the basis of degradation studies and the synthesis of royleanone from ferruginol.
