Abstract

Two routes to 9, 10-diamino-9, 10-dihydro-9, 10-ethanoanthrrtcexie (I. X= NH,) have been developed, in which ethylene is added to simple difunctional anthracene derivatives. For example, ethylene was added to 9, lO-dinitroanthracene and the resulting product (I. X= NO?) was hydrogenated. The diamine was converted to the diol (I. X= OH) and other difunctional derivatives.
