Abstract Acylation, benzoylation, toluylation and related reactions of active methylenes, eg indene, fluorene and diethylmalonic ester is enhanced by the use of solid-liquid phase transfer catalyst. An interesting rearrangement with phthaloyl chloride is reported under identical conditions.
