3-Hydroxy-4—(2-hydroxyethyl)~ 5-methylisoxazole (l) was used as the starting material for the syntheses of the muscimol (5-aminomethyl-3—hydroxyisoxazole) analogues 9, 10 and 14, containing 2-acetoxyethyl, 2-hydroxyethyl, and 2-chloroethyl sub—stituents, respectively, in the 4-position of the ring.
