Abstract Aromatization of 3-ketotetrahydrothiophen enamines (II) furnishes 3-dialkyl- aminothiophens (III). Reduction of the enamines with formic acid yields the tetrahydro derivatives (V). These compounds represent the first examples of simple 3-tert-amino- thiophens and-tetrahydrothiophens.
