Abstract

Lactonization reaction of 2-carboxystilbene mediated by copper (II) chloride proceeded regiospecifically to give the five-membered lactone, while the bromolactonizations using N- bromosuccinimide and anodic oxidation were found to furnish the six-membered lactone.
