Abstract: The mechanism of the title reaction was determined by a detailed study of the pyrolysis of 1, l-dideuterio-1-silacyclobutane. It is concluded from the observations that the propene was a mixture of do, d,, and d2 species and that the deuterium was located on all of the carbons.
