Abstract

Although 4, 6-dihydroxyisophthalaldehydes failed to condense with tripyrranes to produce porphyrinoid products, the related dimethoxydialdehydes reacted with tripyrrane 9 to give, following oxidation with aqueous ferric chloride solution, nonaromatic dimethoxybenziporphyrins 20 in excellent yields.
