Abstract

Polychlorobenzenes, polybromobenzenes, and polychloropolybromobenzenes (C 6 H 6− n X n) were photolyzed in benzene solutions; the products were analyzed by the GC/MS method. Both dehalogenation and phenylation were shown to take place competitively, producing (poly) halobenzenes bearing one less halogen atom (C 6 H 7− n X n− 1) and (poly) halobiphenyls (C 6 H 6− n X n− 1–C 6 H 5) as the major products.
