Abstract

Results In general, the reaction consists oi adding paraformaldehyde to a solution of a negatively substitutcd alcohol in concentrated sulfuric acid, at room temperature or below. The product begins to separate almost immediately, and only a small part of the total product remains dissolved in the reaction solution.
