Abstract

C, 72.33; H, 5.75. 3-(a-Phenyl-pacetylethyl)-4-hydroxycoumarin Ben-zoate.-To a solution of 10 g. of I in 40 ml. of dry pyridine was added 5.8 g. of benzoyl chloride at room temperature. Crystals formed immediately. After three hours the mix-ture was poured into 500 ml. of ice and water with stirring. The resulting solid was filtered and after four recrystallizations from acetone-water 4.4 g. of the desired product, mp 117-119", was obtained.
